Fashola says no new road will be constructed until existing road projects are completed

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola while speaking to State house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the state house Abuja, yesterday, said that the Federal government will not embark on the award and construction of any new road project until existing road projects from the last administration have all been completed.
Fashola said the last administration awarded 206 road contracts worth about N2 tillion which have not been paid for.

He said that roads that are of great economic value such as the Lagos-Ibadan expressway where important items such as Fuel or Food are to be transported to all parts of the country, are of topmost importance to the government.
He stated:
“What we have done was first to say that we would not award any new road contract. We would deal with the over 206 roads that have been awarded but not funded for over three years.”

3 year old daughter of a cop dies after she is left in hot police cruiser for 4 hours by her mum

Two Mississippi police officers Cassie Barker and Clark Ladner were placed on administrative leave after Barker left her daughter in her squad car for 4 hours, resulting in her death. Cassie Barker, the mother of 3-year-old Cheyenne Hyer,  reportedly left the toddler in a cruiser Friday afternoon for four hours.
Reports said the car was running and the air conditioner was on when police found the girl unresponsive in the hot car. She was transported to the hospital but later died.

According to The Sun Herald, Barker was visiting another officer, Clark Ladner, at the time that she left her child alone in the car.

Long Beach Police Chief Wayne McDowell said a tragic sequence of events was set off after Long Beach police officer Cassie Barker ended her patrol shift at 6 a.m. on Friday, then reportedly drove to visit colleague Clark Ladner with her young child in the car.

By the time emergency officials were called to the scene, Cheyenne was unresponsive.

Hancock County Coroner Jim Faulk told The Washington Post. Paramedics worked for 40 minutes “trying to do everything in the world to save her,”

Officer Barker, the child’s mother, was reportedly hospitalized after the incident “in shock,”

According to the Sun Herald, Ladner said he didn’t know the little girl was in the car during Barker's visit and that Barker didn't show any form of urgency or mention that her child was in the car. Both officers were both off-duty during the incident.

Cheyenne’s father Ryan Hyer told the Clarion Ledger that he raised Cheyenne with Barker for the first two years of her life while the couple were still together, but when they broke up, he moved away and didn’t see Cheyenne at all.

Barker recently had to go through the state Department of Human Services to regain Cheyenne after a separate incident.

Hyer said:
“I lost all feeling. I couldn’t speak, I couldn’t breathe Then I was flat out crying. After that I just was angry, and I went in the backyard and started beating up the shed".
Hancock County Chief Deputy Don Bass said there is no logical reason for Barker to have done what she did. He said:
“It’s not an accident. She left the child in the car. We hear and read about this, it seems like quite often recently. It seems more than ever that people are leaving their infants and small children in the car to do tasks and shopping.”
There are no charges as of yet, but Bass said that he expects Barker would be charged with negligent homicide.

‘Terror attack’ in Brussels as two cops are stabbed and train station evacuated over bomb scare

Bruxelles Nord  train station in Brussels, Belgium was evacuated today following a bomb scare while two police men in another part of Brussels were stabbed by a man armed with a Swiss army knife in what security experts believe to be two suspected terror scares in different parts of the city.

The train station was emptied after police received a call warning of a bomb threat while the man who stabbed the policeman was shot in the leg as he tried to flee the scene.
A station spokesman said:
“A message of an alleged bomb threat was sent to the police, all the people were evacuated from the station, the trains have stopped. This will continue until security services inspect the station, minimum an hour.”
Eric Van Der Sypt, a spokesman for the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office, told AFP: “We have elements to believe that the incident was a terrorist attack.”

Why we have not released Dasuki despite ECOWAS Court ruling – FG

The Federal government has given an explanation as to why it has not obeyed yesterday's judgement by the Court of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, ordering it to immediately release the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, who has been in detention since last year over allegations of misappropriation of $2.1 billion arms fund.

Delivering judgement on a Fundamental Human rights suit filed by Dasuki, the court ruled that his arrest, detention and continued detention, was unlawful and arbitrary.

Speaking on the judgement, the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, Salihu Isah, told Premium Times in an interview that the Federal government was still understudying the judgement.
“We cannot just react. We will first of all study the judgement to understand it’s content before taking a stand” he said

TMZ reports Kim feared she would be raped and kept on begging them not to kill her.
According to the gossip site, she was ordered out of bed in only her robe by masked men she thought were going to rape her.
Halfway through dialling her bodyguard, her phone was snatched out of her hands. But her friend Simone Harouche sprung from her bed downstairs and locked herself in a bathroom, the website reported.
The fashion stylist and long-time friend of the Kardashians called Kim's personal bodyguard Pascal Duvier, who was with Kourtney and Kendall less than two miles away.
Meanwhile, the mum of two begged for her life, screaming that she had two children as five masked men dressed in clothes with police markings bound her wrists and ankles with zip ties and duct tape before leaving her in the bathtub.
Kim later told police she feared she was going to be raped and didn't understand the French-speaking robbers.
But she heard them repeating 'ring, ring' before she realised they were searching for the 20-carat emerald-cut Lorraine Schwartz ring given to her by husband Kanye West, according to TMZ.

Asset Declaration CCT dismisses Saraki’s motion asking judge to disqualify himself

Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, has dismissed an application by Senate President Bukola Saraki asking him, to disqualify himself from hearing his trial on false asset declaration. Saraki is standing trial for alleged false declaration of assets while he was serving as governor of Kwara state.

Delivering judgement on Saraki's application today, the Chairman of the Tribunal said he would have disqualified himself if the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which established and binds the tribunal, had made provisions for such an instance where the CCT Chairman can unilaterally disqualify himself from a case.

He added that for the President to remove the Chairman or a member of the Tribunal, there must a written address from the president to the national assembly and a two-third consent from both chambers of the legislative.

He ruled that the allegation by Saraki that he is bias in his case is a "mere conjecture of the media" "The application of the defendant is not well founded and it is hereby refused" he ruled.

MTO puts their own spin to Kim's paris robbery, say she may have let the robbers in

When MediaTakeOut.com wants to give their own version of events, it's always very interesting and sometimes baffling. Below is how they are reporting the theft
Kim Kardashian’s robbery tale is beginning to fall apart, and the French authorities are already suspecting that Kim may have staged the entire robbery. According to two local French reports, police are questioning Kim Kardashian’s version of the facts. Here’s why.
Witnesses say that five armed men entered the Hotel de Pourtalès in Paris on Monday. The men reportedly threatened the concierge and tied him up so he couldn’t call for help.

But there’s a BIG PROBLEM with that story. You see the door to Kim Kardashian’s room was made out of SOLID STEEL – it was armored. And what’s more is that the room is made so that it can be LOCKED FROM THE INSIDE, so that no one can enter the room, without the person INSIDE letting them in.

Local reporters are catching on to this fact, and subtly suggesting that the robbery was completely staged. Here is what is being reported by the UK’s Daily Mail:
Detectives are baffled as to how they got inside Kim Kardashian’s flat
“We are dealing with a young woman who was sleeping alone,” they said. There is no sign of forced entry of any doors in the building.
Investigators are baffled as to who opened the armored door to Kim Kardashian’s luxury apartment before she was robbed at gunpoint in the early hours of Monday morning.
While detectives are satisfied that the robbers could have easily tricked their way into the palatial apartment block in Paris, it is not clear how they got into her actual flat.
“This is the baffling part of the inquiry,” said a source close to the investigation. “The door is armored and easily locked from the inside.
“We are dealing with a young woman who was sleeping alone with a hugely valuable amount of jewelry.
“She would never open the door in the middle of the night in these circumstances, so who did?”
Chile the Kardashian shenanigans are about to be EXPOSED for the world to see. This is gonna be GOOD.

Goje who is currently a senator and Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of financial crimes when he held sway as governor of Gombe state.

Czech club makes two players train with female team after they made sexist comments towards female referee

Two players of Czech Republic football club, Sparta Prague, spoke too quickly and out of tune after a football match with rival, Brno, which made the club swiftly put them in their places.

Following a 3-3 draw in the Czech First League, the pair made sexist comments towards the officiating female assistant referee, Lucie Ratajova, stating that 'women belong in the kitchen', after she failed to spot an offside in the build up to Brno's last minute equaliser.

Speaking after the game, Sparta goalkeeper Tomas Koubek said:
'Women belong in the kitchen, Women should not officiate men's football.'
Lukas Vacha who missed the game through injury called her a 'cooker'.
They have since apologised for the remarks with Koubek issuing a public apology via his Facebook page on Monday.
'Yesterday in Brno was an error that caused a lot of emotion,' he posted. I immediately after the game said something that I regret and for which I would like to apologise to all women. (The comment) was not meant (to be) chauvinistic, my statement was directed at a specific person and a specific situation that arose in the match. And in turn, I love my girls, and I want to have accomplished something we can be proud. '
'The players will spend several days with the club's female side so that they can be made aware that women have plenty of worth outside the kitchen,' Sparta's director general Adam Kotalik told local press.

Producer Yomi Fabiyi cries out on behalf of Baba Suwe, says NDLEA's alleged torture damaged the comic actor's health

In October 2011, veteran comic actor, Babatunde Omidina, aka Baba Suwe, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport on the suspicion of ingestion of illicit drugs. The drugs were supposedly discovered in the actor‘s stomach as he passed through the scanning machine at the airport. Read here

After detaining him for three weeks without finding any drugs, NDLEA released the comic actor.

An Ikeja High Court ordered the agency to pay the sum of N25 million as damages for unlawfully detaining him and also tender a public apology to him. None of this ever happened and in 2013, a Court of Appeal sitting in Igbosere, Lagos, quashed the judgement of the high court, saying there was no evidence to attract such.

In a new development, Producer and Director, Yomi Fabiyi, is alleging that a 'long pipe' was inserted through the actor's anus while in detention back in 2011 and the torture done on him by NDLEA is damaging his health at an alarming rate.

Read what Fabiyi wrote below.

"On BABA SUWE: I am calling on all SENIOR COLLEAGUES in the entertainment world especially those close to Baba Suwe cos I don't have everyone's contact to please reachout to him asap. The torture done on him by NDLEA is vastly damaging his health at an alarming rate. He told me he no longer feel comfortable since that episode. Baba Suwe is a widower, he can hardly walk properly as I speak, let alone go to film. How will he feed and take care of the children aunty Moladun left behind?"

"This is an A-List Entertainer and this conspiracy of silence gives me MENTAL AGONY on my part, I don't want to speak when it may be too late, I won't forgive myself. He told me when I visited him that he is innocent of the accusations and yet a LONG PIPE was inserted through his anus, he was detained for too long amongst other things just because he was randomly suspected like every normal person. In my opinion, only lazy, ill-trained, unfit and uncivilised officers torture in the name of investigation. Torture is criminal and sinful. If this accusation is found to be true by independent investigators, it shouldn't go unpunished."

"The court asked NDLEA to pay him 25million for damages which is yet to be obeyed but to me an OPEN APOLOGY will placate him and illustrate some dignified and civil approach from a government agency that made him go through all that without coming up with a single proof after that prolonged detention and drama. He who assert MUST prove! NDLEA needs to restore public confidence by doing the needful on this matter. And until individuals and government agency begin to respect fundamental HUMAN RIGHT and enhance duty of care, the essence of Nigeria's FREEDOM is far from been realistic. No malice is intended against NDLEA with this outcry, I just hope the leadership see this as a clarion call for getting it right and save the agency from sending an innocent person to an early grave whereby leaving his children to suffer unjustly. My humble take. Thank you.  #JUSTICEFORBABASUWE #SAVEBABASUWE #SAYNOTOTORTURE"

Niger Delta: Military will abide with the FG's ongoing negotiation effort with militants

In a statement released by the Defence Headquarters, the authorities have re-emphasised that the military will abide with the ongoing negotiation effort of the Federal Government with militants in order to have peaceful settlement of the Niger Delta problem.

However, while trying to achieve this feat, the military has warned that it would not tolerate "any individual or group taking its good gesture of adherence to ceasefire and peaceful disposition to the impasse for granted."

Hence, they will respond proportionately to any armed attacks against its location in a decisive but professional manner, in line with its constitutional mandate of defending innocent citizens as well as national critical infrastructure.

The Military states that the Armed Forces has the capacity to defend itself and warns various belligerent groups in either the Niger Delta or any other part of the nation to desist from any act capable of jeopardising peace and security of Nigeria or they will regret the consequences of their actions.

Remember the Nigerian man who proposed to his white girlfriend on top of Olumo Rock? Here is their story!

Few weeks ago, a Nigerian man proposed to his girlfriend ontop Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The photos quickly went viral. See previous post here

The couple was interviewed by BYU-Idaho Scroll, student news source of Brigham Young University, Idaho, U.S. where they are both studying. When Shila Tietjen, a sophomore studying Spanish education decided to visit Nigeria, a proposal was the last thing she expected.

Shila said she and her boyfriend, Olu Egunjobi, also a sophomore studying accounting, began dating in February after they drove to a party together.
Egunjobi said the way they met was a long story and that it was not planned at all.
After dating for a period of time, Egunjobi said he wanted to take her to his hometown in Nigeria.

While in Nigeria, on Sept. 13, 2016, on Tietjen’s birthday, Egunjobi said he surprised her by asking her on Olumo Rock to marry him after they had toured the Kings Palace and the first church in Nigeria.

"I was totally surprised," Tietjen said. "I had no idea it would happen that day. Before we left, I thought he would propose to me on my birthday because he likes to do exciting and big things, but then while we were there, I totally forgot. I even forgot it was my birthday when I woke up."

Tietjen said she was really excited to go to Nigeria to meet his family and that they showed so much love for her.

"They treated me like a princess," she said. Tietjen said they did not expect the media attention that they received from the African news and that it caught them both by surprise.

"I bet there was someone there who took pictures of us thinking it was cool and put it out there, and a lot of newspapers and websites took it," Egunjobi said. "They didn’t even know our names. We weren’t expecting it, I was just there in the living room and I started receiving calls. We went viral in two days."

Egunjobi said their relationship had not always been easy.
"We both had opposition from family and friends about marrying into a different race and culture," Tietjen said, "Luckily, though, our immediate families are both really cool with it."

Egunjobi said his family has not always been members of the Church and he converted when he was 11 years old. Tietjen said she comes from a long history of members of the Church.

"The gospel is really cool," Egunjobi said. "Without the gospel, I do not see how this would be happening. I am from a different culture, she is from a different culture, and the gospel is uniting us together."

Tietjen said she encourages people to be open to different things and to the many different cultures on campus.

"There’s a lot of cultures on campus," Tietjen said. “We shouldn’t be afraid to experience them we should be willing to open up to them, because when we are not open, that is when we have so many problems in the world."

The two said they have both received some discouraging remarks from people, but that their love remains strong.

"If the love is there, the color shouldn’t be a barrier,” Egunjobi said. “In the end, we are all human beings."

Tietjen said they both have grown together through this process, and they look forward to the eternities that are ahead of them.

"After a week of learning new customs, traditions and ways of life, I understood Olu better," Tietjen said. "I knew for sure that I wanted to be with him forever, no matter what forever would consist of. On the Rock, I had no doubts. I will take my children and grandchildren there to show them how two opposite people with lots of opposition decided to make the climb, face the heights and then stand at the top, strong and firm in their love and dedication."
