National Assembly members asked me to buy them houses, cars but I refused- Bauchi state governor alleges

Bauchi state governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has accused members of the National Assembly of fighting him because he refused to buy them houses and cars as they demanded. DailyTrust reports that Abubakar made the allegation while speaking at a function to commemorate the 56th Independence day celebration over the weekend.

According to him, Bauchi is the only state where National Assembly members were needlessly trying to undermine efforts of their governor and tried to pitch the people against him.
“At a time, the National Assembly members met me in a certain place where they requested that I should buy houses for them in Abuja and luxury jeep cars, but I told them that even if I’m bathing in a pool of money, I cannot afford to meet their demands. I’m ready to give them any assistance they may require, but not houses or cars, especially with the present economic predicament.”he said

"Aregbesola's visit to Fayose is embarrassing, shocking and awful" - APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola's visit to Governor Ayodele Fayose as a slight on the ruling party and contempt for its leadership in the state. Aregbesola was in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday on invitation of Fayose for the 20th Anniversary of Ekiti State. At a public forum broadcast live on the state media, Aregbesola described Fayose as "omoluabi" and a hardworking governor who had turned around the fortunes of Ekiti State in terms of infrastructure.

"Fayose is a reliable person" he was quoted to have said, and that in spite of political differences, he and Fayose shared many things in common and "sooner than later, there will be realignment  of forces".
A statement by the Publicity Secretary of APC, Taiwo Olatunbosun, said that the visit shows the contempt into which the party and its leaders were held by the Osun governor after Fayose had caused severe pains in the lives of APC members, some of whom had been languishing in jail for about two years for the offences they did not commit.
"Aregbesola's visit to Fayose praising him as 'omoluabi' and for the achievements by APC-led government is not alone embarrassing but also awful in the face of sustained attacks on APC members, some of whom are still languishing in jail for about two years over trumped-up charges by Fayose. It is shocking that Aregbesola as a governor and one of the leading lights in APC in the South West and indeed the nation would be visiting Ekiti State without putting the leaders into confidence, more so on a visit to a man who once wished the President dead and had done unbelievable things both in Nigeria and abroad to bring Buhari's government down. Worse still, Aregbesola was praising the man who will stop at nothing to bring APC-led Federal Government down after several years of failed attempts by the progressives to win the presidency of Nigeria."
On the reported 'alignment between the two governors, Mr Olatunbosun said:
"We find it most embarrassing and shocking that one of our leaders would be planning a re-alignment of forces with a governor that has made life a nightmare for our members, the same members that will participate in the said re-alignment that Aregbesola is talking about, without sparing a thought for members held in jail unjustly while other APC members are routinely attacked by Fayose's men on the streets.

Photos: Man arrests man with 270g Cocaine At Lagos Airport

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 47 year-old Odili James Onyekwere at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos for trafficking 270g of banned substance which tested positive for cocaine. Odili upon his arrest excreted 25 wraps of the cocaine substance.

NDLEA'S Head of Public Affairs of NDLEA, Ofoyeju Michell, in a statement released yesterday said the arrest was made during the outward screening of passengers on a Kenyan Airways flight to Ivato International Airport Antananarivo, Madagascar. The NDLEA commander at the Lagos airport, Ahmadu Garba while commenting on the arrest said
“This is the first arrest and seizure in the year heading to Madagascar from this airport. The suspect, Odili James Onyekwere successfully excreted twenty-five (25) wraps of cocaine which he ingested while under close observation. He is cooperating with our team of investigators and the case will soon be charged to court”
When interrogated, Odili who hails from Rivers state said
“I am married with two children and I sell shoes in Lome, Togo. As a result of the economic downturn my capital kept depreciating until I lost everything. This is my first time of smuggling drugs. It was the frustration of not being able to provide for my wife and two children that made me to smuggle cocaine. They promised to pay me a thousand dollars”.

Dangote denies plans to buy NLNG, other national assets

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, says although he suggested the sale of some National assets as measures to get out of the current economic recession, he is not interested in buying any. Dangote in an interview with CNBC last month, suggested the sale of some National assets to revive the ailing economy.

His suggestion however received some level of backlash from many Nigerians as they felt he was planning to "buy up Nigeria". In an interview with ThisDay, Dangote said even if NLNG or any other national asset is offered to him on credit, he will not buy.
"Why did I suggest that we should sell some of the assets? I know the touchy one is the NLNG. I want to make it categorically clear that even if the government is selling NLNG on credit, I am not interested in buying. I don’t have any interest in NLNG and I will not buy it. It is not a business that I want to invest in. It is a mature business; that is what people don’t understand. You see, we should have invested heavily in all these Brass LNG, Olokola LNG, etc, when former President Olusegun Obasanjo started work on the projects, but we missed the opportunity. Today, you have massive LNG projects that have been done by Qatar, Australia and the United States is also exporting. But right now, all the gas that we have is even in the ground. Even Mozambique has a massive amount of gas and also Tanzania, and they are nearer to the markets than we are. So, if somebody is even going to invest in LNG, he would go to those areas and invest there and not here in Nigeria, because the investment here daunting. So my own suggestion is that even if we must sell, it doesn’t have to be 100 per cent of our interest in NLNG.” "People are just saying it is better to go and borrow, but I don’t know where they are coming from. You see, with borrowing, if I have issues with my business today, the bankers who would lend me the money would want to see me doing something first to see how the business can survive. There would be conditionalities. But if you are not shedding weight, how do you expect somebody to help you with funding? You have to start first by trying to shed weight and showing the person (lender) who wants to help you with the assets you want to sell”.
